PROBLEMS OF UNEMPLOYMENT IN NIGERIA
Unemployment by definition is when people are not working and actively seeking work.It is calculated as a percentage by dividing the number of individuals not working from those in the labour market. The rate is a measure of its prevalence.
Nigeria records one of the highest unemployment rate in the world. Many of her youths roam the streets in search of jobs to no avail.Some of the youths not searching are into one fraud or the other in other to make ends meet. Like the popular saying goes,"the idle mind is the devils workshop" this why the unemployed youths in the North, are lured into terrorists activities and also in the South-South.Crime was on its increased because these youths,has to make money and not feel inferior or be denied the comforts which money brings
Although unemployment is a global issues,with the developed countries also looking for a solution to it.It is low in these developed countries, and very alarming in Nigeria. Some or most companies in Nigeria even place embargo on employment there by making the matter worst. Banks in Nigeria are laying off those few lucky ones that works without a good reasons to back up their actions thereby increasing the numbers of unemployed citizens.Governments on its part is not helping,because they fail to intervene in solving the problems of unemployment. Recently an opposition party in Nigeria accuses the rulling party of not creating jobs in the country.
If crime and other social unrest must be checked, Government must create jobs for the youths and private companies too must play a part in engaging the unemployed youths and entrepreneurial skills must be provided for these youths.
